Thrift Shops for NOVA Supports More than Healthcare

Most of the volunteers, donors and customers of Thrift Shops for NOVA know that the majority of funds gathered from store sales are funneled into professional healthcare for the vulnerable people in our community. What many do not know is that Thrift Shop for NOVA also supports youth in education.

Thrift Shop for NOVA regularly  welcomes John Abbott students for 13 weeks of community service as part of their curriculum.  The students assist in numerous responsibilities in the stores and gain important insight into the world of volunteering.

In addition, Thrift Shops for NOVA awards bursaries, twice a year to three students in the nursing program at John Abbott. Last month, Edith L’Homme represented Thrift Shops for NOVA in awarding 3 selected students bursaries of $1000 each. The thank-you letters received from the students are heartwarming, it has provided them with the encouragement and support that is needed to carry them through their studies. They voiced heartfelt gratitude for the confidence invested in them and we are so very proud to be part of these future nurses’ journey!

Thrift Shops for NOVA continues to support the John Abbott students this upcoming August 17th with its participation in the Residence Move-In Day. The goal is to welcome and inform students of the supportive community they are entering. We look forward to participating in making the move to John Abbott Residences a fun and inviting event!
